Dark knuckles, or hyper pigmentation of the knuckles could be caused by several factors, some of which require urgent medical attention.

However, in prevalent times, it is often caused by injuries, skin irritation, or the use of strong acidic substance, commonly referred to as bleaching creams, on the skin.

Bleaching cream breaks down the melanin present in the skin, causing less protection of the skin from sun rays. This eventually leads to; wrinkles, uneven texture, and discoloration.

While there are several articles on the internet on how to address this issue, most of them involve using more acidic substance on the skin, which could result in cases more severe than dark knuckles.

 Anyone can develop dark knuckles.

A more reliable or natural guide to getting rid of dark knuckles is:

1) Moisturize your skin with Shea Butter: Moisturizing keeps your skin hydrated and prevents your knuckles from drying out and appearing darker than your normal skin.

Why Shea butter? You may ask. Shea Butter is rich in vitamins A & E, both of which keeps the skin light, and protects it from absorbing more sun rays than is required.

2) Exfoliate regularly: Exfoliation takes away dead skin cells. Mild exfoliants like honey provide enough exfoliation without triggering skin irritation.

3) Proper hydration by taking enough water also helps to keep the skin moisture and prevents cracks in the already affected skin.

4) Regular fruits intake provides natural antioxidants which also helps to keep the skin healthy.

Like all good things, this natural procedure does not work overnight, and can take months in some cases. It also goes without saying that bleaching soaps or cream should be avoided during and after this process to avoid another bout of hyperpigmentation.
